Fort Myers (Fla.) Riverdale three-star tight end Mat Williams committed to South Carolina last month, choosing the Gamecocks over Louisville, Ole Miss, Pittsburgh, and several others. This week he received a phone call from a newly hired head coach hoping to turn his attention away from Columbia.

"Coach (Nick) Saban from Alabama called my coach this week," the 6-foot-5, 230-pound Williams said. "My coach called me down to the office and asked me if I wanted to take the call. I told him 'thanks, but no thanks,' because I am already committed to South Carolina. I was flattered by the call, but once I committed, that was it for me."
