Davis to the rescue
Tasmin Mitchell had his third 20-point scoring night in a Southeastern Conference game this season.
Playing on Senior Night, Darnell Lazare contributed double figures in points and a career-equaling high for rebounds in a league game.
But, LSU was able to avoid the cellar in the overall SEC standings because of the work of its celebrated leader.
Glen Davis, playing for the first time in two weeks, carried the Tigers down the stretch to a 61-52 victory against South Carolina at the PMAC on Saturday.
LSU lost a 12-point second half when a basket by Tre' Kelley capped a run of 13 consecutive points. Kelley's layup with 10:48 remaining in the game put the Gamecocks ahead 42-41.
Dameon Mason dunked on the next possession to give the Tigers the lead. Then, it was time for Davis to do what he had failed to do on many occasions this season.
"Yesterday, a friend of mine was telling me how I didn't come through in the clutch this year," Davis said. "I thought about that and decided to come through for my team."
