There hasn't been a season opener this big for Oklahoma State in over 20 years.

The year was 1984. Then first-year head coach Pat Jones took an unranked Cowboys squad to the valley of the sun to face No. 12-ranked Arizona State. It was a big road game and the unranked Pokes were an underdog against the Sun Devils, that year a favorite to win the Pac-10 Conference title. OSU was coming off an 8-4 season and a win over Baylor in the Bluebonnet Bowl.

The result? The Cowboys went down to Tempe and burned the Sun Devils badly, coming back home with a 45-3 victory and a major upset of a highly-ranked squad. The Cowboys used that momentum earned from beating a Top 15 program to go 10-2 and defeat No. 7 South Carolina in the Gator Bowl.

Flash forward to 2007. The Cowboys are coming off a 7-5 campaign and win in the Independence Bowl, and Georgia is ranked No. 13 in the preseason AP Poll. Is this a similar situation for OSU? A game that the Cowboys could go on the road and win unexpectedly to propel itself to a big season? What would beating Georgia on the road do for the Pokes?

Quarterback Bobby Reid feels it would provide a major boost of confidence.
