Chicago (Morgan Park), Ill., defensive end Craig Drummond knew nothing about Ole Miss when he left the Windy City on Friday afternoon.

By Sunday, when he was back in his home on the Second City's south side, the four-star U.S. Army All-American was giving serious consideration to making Oxford his college home.

"It went great," Drummond said Sunday night. "Everything was cool. I liked the team. The coaches, they were good. Ole Miss helped themselves."

Drummond, a 6-foot-5, 260-pounder ranked as the nation's No. 9 defensive end prospect by Rivals.com, was hosted by rising junior defensive end Kentrell Lockett.

"(Lockett) told me I'd get playing time and I'd get on the field," Drummond said. "He said the coaches keep their word."

Surprisingly, Drummond said that after spending a weekend in Oxford, the transition from the skyscrapers and elevated trains in Chicago to the far more laid-back atmosphere in north Mississippi wouldn't be a big deal.

"It wasn't too different or too difficult," Drummond said. "I liked it."

Drummond said he will leave for an official visit at Michigan State Monday. When he gets back from East Lansing, a decision will likely be imminent, as Drummond said he's narrowed his choices to Ole Miss and the Spartans and he still plans to enroll at one of those schools in time for the spring semester and spring football.

The trip to Michigan State will be a first for Drummond, who was committed to Illinois before he learned recently that he could not be admitted to the school in time for the spring semester. Subsequently, Drummond said he knows very little about the Spartans' program.

"They were good last year," Drummond said. "The team was good."

Drummond said his decision will come down to the quality of education he believes he can receive and his comfort level with the coaching staff.
