North Gwinnett defensive end Dante Sawyer's recruitment is as hot as it gets right now.
In the last six months, Sawyer has been offered by Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, UCLA, USC, and Ohio State have extended offers to the Suwanee native, and another offer was extended by Georgia at the Bulldogs' Junior Day on Saturday.
"It went pretty good. When I first got here Coach (Chris) Wilson told me he wanted to talk to me for a long time," Sawyer said. "After the player personnel (meeting) where we talked to the players and then the academic stuff, he pulled me to the side and he let me know what was up. Coach (Bryan) McClendon let me know before, he had hinted that there would be an offer coming. Talking to Coach Wilson, he told me that there was definitely an offer out there, but he wanted to talk to Coach (Mark) Richt because Coach Richt was going to let him know if that offer was going to be for me to be able to commit. I felt real good today because Georgia is one of my top schools."
The Georgia staff made it a point to make the four-star prospect feel wanted on his visit to Athens, but they also took time to inform him of how he would fit into the Bulldog defense.
"They want me to play the Jack linebacker because in the 3-4, that jack linebacker stands up and puts his hand down, he does all the good stuff. He pass rushes, and drops back, stuff like that."
The offer from the home-state Bulldogs will likely go down as the highlight of this visit for the Rivals250 prospect, but another aspect of the trip also stood out the Sawyer.
"The one-on-one time with Coach Wilson," Sawyer stated when asked what stood out about the visit. "We sat and talked for a long time. Then me, Coach Richt , and my dad went into Coach Richt's office and talked for a minute. So it was pretty good."
Now that the Bulldogs have offered, Sawyer's recruitment is shaping up to be yet another boarder war between UGA and Alabama for a top prospect's signature.
"My top school would probably be Alabama, but right behind that is UGA since they are showing me love now," he said. "So that's my two top schools then Ohio State and my third one would be Tennessee."
The Peach State standout isn't close to a decision just yet, but says that fans won't have to wait long until he makes his choice known.
"I'll have my decision on where I want to go before heading into my senior season so probably around summer-ish," Sawyer said. "So you know I can go out and probably hit up some of these other schools and see what these coaches are talking about. But I'll definitely be committed before summer is over with."
