October 22, 2009Rivals.com has teamed up with All Star Video Sports for a new weekly feature on the top recruits and the top high school teams in the Kansas City area.
Every week, AllStarVideoSports.com will release the week's show, hosted by Nick McCabe of Sports Radio 810 WHB and Rivals.com national recruiting editor Jeremy Crabtree.
This week's episode highlights sleeper Kansas City prospects Jasper Sanders of Kansas City (Kan.) Piper and Pat Lewandowski of Overland Park (Kan.) Blue Valley West. Both players have had solid senior seasons and definitely are on the Division I radar.
In the recap of the biggest game in the area from last week, Lee's Summit vs. Rockhurst featured plenty of Division I prospects, including Sal Belfonte and Corbin Berkstresser.
Belfonte has developed into one of Kansas City's best high school football players, but he's still searching for his first scholarship offer. That will change if he continues to play like he did against Lee's Summit. Berkstresser is an early Missouri commitment. Crabtree breaks down his game and how the Tigers went after him early for their quarterback commitment in the 2011 class.
The Spotlight also continues with two new features - a where are they now look at former Kansas City stars and a breakdown on one of the region's top teams.
This week's flashback segment is on former Overland Park (Kan.) Shawnee Misssion West receiver David Leonard and Raytown, Mo., defensive end Aldon Smith. Leonard is one of the nations' best receiver prospects now at Wyoming, and Smith has developed into Missouri's top pass rushing threat.
Crabtree also breaks down Gary Pinkel's recruiting efforts so far this season, including a look at some of the top Tiger commitments already on the board.
