January 15, 2013Pitt added another offensive lineman to the recruiting class of 2013 on Tuesday when Philadelphia (Pa.) West Catholic tackle Jaryd Jones-Smith committed to the Panthers.
Jones-Smith picked Pitt over offers from Virginia, N.C. State, Wisconsin, Arizona, Michigan, Temple, UCF, Vanderbilt, and Villanova, but the Panthers and the Cavaliers were his final two choices. He visited Virginia in October and took an official visit to Pitt in early December.
An all-state first team selection by the Pennsylvania Sportswriters, Jones-Smith was also named to the Pennsylvania roster for the 2013 Big 33 Football Classic.
Jones-Smith, 6'7" 300, is the fifth offensive line recruit to commit to Pitt in the class of 2013, joining Belle Vernon tackle Dorian Johnson, Chambersburg guard Aaron Reese, Fairborn (Oh.) guard Carson Baker, and Rochester (NY) Eastridge guard Alexander Officer.
With five commits on the defensive line, the Pitt coaching staff has already crossed the double-digit plateau in the trenches for this class.
Pitt now has 24 commitments in the class of 2013, including four recruits who enrolled in January, which should allow the coaching staff to sign as many as five more prospects. With Jones-Smith on board, the staff has most likely filled its quota for offensive linemen.
