Practicing in front of scouts from the Golden State Warriors, center Omar Oraby went 13 for 13 from the floor during Wednesday's practice. He wasn't the only Trojan that impressed, two freshmen and an experienced guard also stood out to head coach Andy Enfield.
Enfield on Injuries: "(Strahinja Gavrilovic) should be back on Friday. D.J. (Hale) is having a doctor's appointment in the middle the month but he has to get cleared by the physician first."
Is Kahlil Dukes limited: "No he played a full day, he's healthy."
Omar Oraby's day: "Today he was 13 of 13 from the field in practice. It was a pretty good day for him. We're going to get him the ball in the low post and let him go to work."
Power forwards: "Nikola (Jovanovic) had a great practice today, made a couple of threes and put the ball on the floor. Roschon Prince had a great practice today. Luis (SG) is another potential floor man but he's hurt. I thought that Roschon and Nikola both had excellent practices today and we're expecting more of that because we need them to step up and we need the freshmen to help us."
Byron Wesley so far: "Byron has been very consistent with his offense and he's becoming more consistent with his defense. With all of our upperclassmen, I would like them to come talk a little more on the defensive end. I think you need to learn that. Sometimes guys need to lead by example but I think guys also need to open their mouth and lead verbally as well. Defensively we need to be an excellent defensive team. If we're going to do anything this year from a win loss perspective, we need to be a good defensive team. It's going to be on these upperclassmen to start communicating and taking pride in their defense."
Golden State Warriors scouts: "Usually NBA scouts go around to most teams in the preseason to look and see. When someone goes 13 for 13 from the field and he's 7-foot-2, obviously they'll take a close look at him. Pe'Shon (Howard) is a senior but in the NBA nowadays they draft freshmen and sophomores. Since they haven't seen our freshmen or our upperclassmen since they've improved, they come in and evaluate everyone from freshmen to seniors."
What happened on day 10: "We really worked on our transition today. We have a day off tomorrow, so we have a scrimmage. It was a 65-64 score. That's not a full game it was just the final score of our offense, defense parts. It was very competitive. We got after it in transition. They competed which you can see with the end score. It was a good day to see guys compete under pressure and I was very happy to see how we played. We played fast today in the half and the full court."
Day 10 MVPs: "I thought Omar, Roschon and Nikola showed flashes that they can compete at high levels. Pe'Shon had a strong practice too. We just have to have that consistently and do that more often."
What will happen on day 11 (Friday): "We'll probably put a few new plays and concepts in. We'll really try to use Friday and Saturday. Saturday is more of a scrimmage day while Friday is a teaching day. Saturday is an up and down day where we're really working on transition."
