Out in the suburb of LaVerne sits a tiny powerhouse-La Verne Lutheran HS. The Trojans, 2 time defending state champs boast 2 current U. of Arizona commits in 6-3 junior guard Eric Cooper Jr. and the states best player 6-10 forward Grant Jerrett.
The team is very talented top to bottom though. A few of the support players are good enough to be stars on many other teams.
6-3 Senior Guard Cameron Osorno is a 3 point ace who is fast and plays outstanding defense. He has an understanding of the game beyond his years.
6-6 Junior Forward McKay Anderson also has a nice outside touch as well as an inside presence on both ends of the court. During a recent game against Ribet Academy, Anderson was able to contain Ribet's super star big man, 6-11 Soph center Idriss Diallo, and hold him to 9 points after Jerrett left the game due to an early ankle injury. Four of Diallo's 13 points were against Jerrett.
6-1 Jr Guard Jay Miller is an "in your face" relentless defender who is smooth with the ball along the baseline and has a nice 12-15 foot shot. He also can play above the rim and has posterized a few guys with dunks in their faces.
5-10 (and still growing) Soph PG Brian Beard is one of the best point guards I have ever seen at the high school level. He won't be a secret much longer and should be heavily recruited as soon as this summer.
How do I know this? I announce their home games and have watched all of these young men grow under the tuteledge of Coaches Eric Cooper and Brandon Lee. I'd also love to see them all in USC Trojan Basketball uniforms one day.
