Wrestling with a decision

As National Signing Day draws near, and teams look to get better on the lines of scrimmage, Henry County defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson is a hot commodity.

Tomlinson is a two-time state champion as a wrestler in the Georgia heavy weight division, but he is also a terror on the football field.

The Rivals 250 member believes that wrestling is a big reason for his success.

"I have learned to play with leverage because of wrestling," he said. "I'm also getting much better with playing with me hands. A lot my improvement is because of wrestling.

The ups and downs of the recruiting process are different for each prospect.

Some are able to focus on a couple of schools, but others, like Tomlinson, have had schools entering and exiting the mix as the process has carried on.

The home state Georgia Bulldogs has done just that for the Henry County native.

"A month ago, Georgia was pretty much down there. I hadn't heard from them," said Tomlinson. "But they have started working on me lately and showing more interest. I talk to Coach (Bryan) McClendon a lot and Coach (Rodney) Garner."

Because Georgia has just reentered the race for Tomlinson, he could decide to leave them on the outside looking in, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

"They are up there now, and near my top five," he said. "My top three right now is Alabama, Georgia Tech, and probably Florida. Georgia is coming up, kind of, but they're not up there with the others yet."

The Peach State lineman visited Georgia Tech on Dec. 2, and he will be visiting Alabama on Dec. 9 and Florida on December 16.

Tomlinson, who is being recruited as a defensive end by schools with 3-4 defenses and as a defensive tackle by schools with a 4-3 defense, is not yet certain if he will give the Bulldogs an official visit, but he does know when he will make a decision.

"If I don't make a decision around winter break, I'll probably make it sometime in January," he said.
