Sandy Creek wide receiver Demarre Kitt has a long way to go.
National Signing Day for 2014 is almost two years away, but the Patriot playmaker's recruitment is already as serious as one that is just a few months putting pen to paper.
The star sophomore made a trip to Georgia last weekend for their Very Important Dawg (VID) Event, but, being as popular has already become with schools all over the southeast, Kitt had to turn down one trip to visit Athens.
"I was going to Clemson and all," said Kitt. "But the Georgia coaches called and let my coaches how badly they wanted me to come there. So I decided to make the trip. It was a tough decision and all, but I really like Athens and decided to go hang out there."
Kitt has been open about the schools that he likes early in the process, and the Bulldogs appear to be one of his main interests.
"Georgia is a school that has showed me a lot," he said. "I really love visiting there. I just love the vibe I get from their coaches and the attention they show me. I like it there a lot. I feel comfortable there, and its fun to go hang out with guys like Shaq (Wiggins) and Tray (Matthews). It has a great atmosphere and is just a lot of fun."
The Sandy Creek sophomore had already taken on visit to Athens in January for Georgia's first Junior Day, and he left with an offer.
This visit, however, was quite different according to Kitt, and impressive as well.
"It was a great visit, and I had a lot of fun," he said. "It was much different than a normal junior day because we got to spend more time with the coaches. We tried on the jerseys and all, and it was great. I got to wear my number eight, which was really cool. We got to see some highlights and the food was really good too. Then we went to the basketball, and just had a great time."
With so much time between now and when Kitt would be eligible to sign with the school of his choice, the Peach State pass catcher understands that the recruiting process is a marathon rather than a sprint.
"I'm really just trying to take my time and see it all," said Kitt. "There are places that I like a lot, but I'm just trying to get to know the players and coaches and just see where I feel the most comfortable."
Despite the fact that Kitt is in it for the long haul when it comes to recruiting, he also understands that a decision could come sooner rather than later.
"I'm not sure when I will make a decision," he said. "It could come as early as this summer. When I know where I want to be, that is when I will decide."
