Wake interested in Curtis
Orlando (Fla.) Olympia offensive tackle Shawn Curtis has official visits scheduled to Mississippi State, NC State and Syracuse, and would think about taking one to Wake Forest if the Demon Deacons offer him a scholarship.
"They [Wake] said they have to make room and everything," Curtis said. "They don't have enough scholarships I guess. I have made a visit to Wake Forest. The first week of the summer I went on a trip to all four [Duke, NC State and UNC] and Wake was my final one."
Tom Elrod is Curtis' primary recruiter for the Demon Deacons. Curtis has also had some interaction with Wake's offensive line coach Jonathan Himebauch.
"It's [his relationship with Elrod] good," Curtis said. "He reaches out to me on Facebook to check in with how I'm doing and to make sure I'm still thinking about them. They're still trying to get me an offer. He [Himebauch] really likes me a lot. He said the next offer that they have to give out it would definitely be me, and he just likes the way I play."
He added if Wake Forest offers he would strongly consider it.
The 6-foot-5 and 270-pounder, who is rated as a three-star recruit and the nation's No. 68 offensive tackle by Rivals.com, claims scholarship offers from Buffalo, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Duke, East Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Illinois, Iowa State, Kentucky, Louisville, Mississippi State, NC State, North Carolina, South Alabama, South Florida, Syracuse, while Florida State, Indiana, UCF and Wake Forest are showing interest.
"[I'm hearing the most from] USF, FIU, Syracuse, Iowa State and Mississippi State," Curtis said. "I'd say Syracuse, North Carolina State, Duke, USF, Iowa State and Mississippi State those all stand out right now."
"[I want the school I choose to have] a great education, so the degree will mean a lot after football, a great coaching staff, a coaching staff I can really get along with, and a great program that will have a great offense."
Curtis added he will choose a school sometime during the season most likely after he takes a couple of visits.
