Three-star tight end Jermey Kerr has disillusions about what his role will be in the Florida State offense.

At 6-foot-6, 260 pounds Kerr knows he'll make his mark in the running game, not as a pass-catching tight end.

"Their main point of emphasis when they were recruiting was they need someone who can seal the edge and someone that's good at the point of attack," Kerr said. "I'm a blocking tight end, I'm not a little guy. That's the kind of player I am, which I'm OK with. I think that's where I fit in.

Because of his size Kerr also can create mismatches in the passing game with his physicality. That's why he believes he will stay at tight end during his college career, and not move to offensive tackle, a move that his frame would suggest could be possible down the line.

Kerr said the coaches have told him they want him at 260 pounds, so as of now his focus has been cutting the fat and adding muscle while maintaining his current weight.

"I'm a good weight, but I'm just trying to make it a little bit of a cleaner weight," he said. "Lose a little bit of body fat, so I've been doing a lot, a lot of running. I've still been in the weight room a ton, but I've been focusing on my speed and agility. Doing a lot of route running, getting out there and catching the ball."

Kerr took a trip to Tallahassee during spring practice and for the Garnet and Gold game. It was his first opportunity to get to know new tight ends coach Tim Brewster.

During the time he has been committed to both Florida State and Miami, Kerr said he has had four different tight end coaches before even setting foot on a college practice field.

He does like what he's seen from Brewster so far, and thinks because of his physicality the two will get along great.

"I liked him a lot. He was a great guy. He's a really good coach," Kerr said. "I'm really excited to work with him. I definitely think he's going to be a good coach and him and I are pretty compatible for each other."
