Sooners Renew Interest in 2013 Miami Signee

Devante Bond was a prospect that the Sooners had their eye on last year out of Roseville (Calif.) Sierra C.C. though an offer wasn't extended as it didn't appear the 6-foot-3 and 230-pound outside linebacker fit into the defensive scheme defensive coordinator, Mike Stoops was running at the time. Bond had close to 15-offers then and ended up signing with the Miami Hurricanes this past February.

Turns out though, the three-star prospect will not be going to Coral Gables, Fla. due to some academic issues that weren't cleared up this summer.

"Pretty much I just fell short a class," Bond began. "I just didn't handle what I needed to handle and just fell short a class. I took the class over in the summer but it was just too late because of rules I couldn't take an extra class. It just fell short three-units because I needed 12-units in the summer and the NCAA only took nine.

"So I pretty much just fell short one class."
