Linebacker loves BC tradition
Jack Cottrell visited Boston College for the first time more than a week ago and the Eagles put their best foot forward.
Cottrell was one of many juniors at BC for the Eagles' junior day and the Eden Prairie (Minn.) had to make a very long trip to get there. That alone seems to be a good indicator of the early impression the Eagles have made on Cottrell.
"That was the first school I had a junior day offer from and I had heard it was a nice school so I wanted to check it out," Cottrell said this weekend.
"I thought it was a great school. They've got a really nice campus and really nice facilities."
While Boston is a much different part of the country than Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Cottrell doesn't think the change of pace would be too tough to adjust to.
"It was my first time on the east coast, actually," he said. "I guess just the fact that it's on the coast makes it different but other than that it wasn't too different from what I'm used to."
One reason the 6-foot-4, 215-pound linebacker felt so comfortable was the coaches.
"I met most of them but I spent some time talking to Coach McGovern. He seemed like a really good guy and a good coach.
"They've had really good linebackers over the years so it would be a great program for that."
Cottrell will visit the University of Minnesota for the first time in a couple of weeks when the Gophers host their first junior day of the year.
He will also visit Western Michigan and South Dakota State this spring. While Cottrell was at BC he stopped by Harvard for an unofficial visit.
Cottrell carries a 3.89 grade point average. He registered 99 tackles as a junior at Eden Prairie in the fall.
