Bruin target beginning to make noise

The word is slowly but surely getting out about the ability of Los Angeles (Calif.) Dorsey safety Jayme Otomewo (6-2, 195, 4.5). He has gone to junior days at both UCLA and USC, plus Otomewo was able to land his first two offers.

Otomewo talks about UCLA's junior day.

"It went well," Otomewo said. "They gave us a campus tour. We checked out UCLA's weight room and were given information about the school, its education and academics.

"They put us in certain groups," Otomewo said. "I was in the defensive group and they told what they were looking for in a player and in the safeties.

"Pretty much talked a lot about defensive scheme and how they want to change UCLA around."

Otomewo also went to USC's junior day and he enjoyed his time there very much.

"USC's junior day went great," Otomewo said. "USC has always been one of my favorite schools, so I was very excited to go and check them out.

"USC was pretty determined, too," Otomewo said. "It was pretty much the same thing as UCLA.

"I felt USC cared a little more," Otomewo said. "USC talked to us about everything.

"At UCLA's junior day we were in the weight room and gave us a view tour," Otomewo said. "At USC they were telling us the procedures and what happens in the weight room. They told us about the lifestyle and what kind of weights we would be lifting. What we would do afterwards and everything."

Both UCLA and USC are still in the evaluation stage on Otomewo. USC has invited him to their skills only camp. Even if he can only make it a half day, USC wants to see him perform.

Colorado and San Jose State were the first schools to offer a scholie. Colleges such as Boise State, Cal, Stanford, Washington, Washington State and even Georgia from the SEC is showing interest.

What is Otomewo looking for in a college?

"A college that has great academics," Otomewo said. "My parents stress the fact that academics.

"I have had great grades throughout the whole high school process," Otomewo said. "I recorded a 4.0 GPA last year so academics are the number one thing.

"Athletically, I am looking for a team that fits me well," Otomewo said. "Looking at the depth chart and see if I can play early.

"I'm also looking for a team that can get me better as a person and an athlete," Otomewo said. "If I get the offer, I want I could be an early commit."

Otomewo is a pretty big safety and if he grows more, he could end up as a backer, but for now, he is a defensive back and he wants to stay at that position.

"I'm pretty set," Otomewo said. "I've set my mind on being a safety."

As a junior, Otomewo earned first-team all-league and first-team all-city as a defensive player after racking up 75 tackles, three interceptions, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
