Woodson makes commit No. 11 for Arizona
Arizona has really started to see the commitments happen quickly over the last few weeks, and Sunday evening the Wildcats added another quarterback to their 2013 class when Monroeville (Pa.) Gateway signal caller Thomas Woodson gave his verbal pledge to the program.
The two-star prospect has known the UA coaching staff for a long time, and he felt there was no reason to wait any longer with his recruitment - even though he has yet to visit Tucson.
"The coaching staff always stood out," he told GOAZCATS.com Sunday evening. "I liked them when they were at Michigan and I like them now at Arizona. They pulled the trigger [with an offer], so why not play for a team that has liked me from the start?
"So I'll play my college career there."
Woodson also held an offer from Bowling Green, but it was the UA staff's confidence in him that led to his decision to commit Sunday night.
"It's real big," he said. "I've had some injuries, so it was going to be hard to receive offers from many schools, but the whole coaching staff stayed with me. They took a chance on me, so why not play for a school that has high hopes for me and what I like to do? And that's play football."
Playing in the Pac-12 and making the move to Tucson in the fall of 2013 is something that Woodson and his family are comfortable with.
"My mom always tells me to not ever be afraid to take a chance, and God always has a plan for everybody," he said. "Even if it's all the way in Arizona, why not go out there and do what I love to do? And especially in a conference like the Pac-12, where there's a lot of athletes that come out of that conference.
"A lot of good players come out of Arizona as well like Nick Foles and Juron Criner."
At this point Woodson said he still has to plan a trip to UA, but it's looking like it will have to be for an official visit.
The pro-style prospect threw for 1,300 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior, and he also rushed for 600 yards and six more scores last season.
