California safety picks Oregon State

The summer months are when a lot of uncommitted recruits start to make their choice and Oregon State's coaches are undoubtedly hoping for a big few weeks. On Monday they got off to a good start.

That's because Terin Solomon, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound safety from Murrieta (Calif.) Murrieta Valley, committed to the Beavs.

Solomon had previously received offers from Nevada and UCLA, but on Monday he decided that he didn't need to go forward with the process any longer.

"I committed to Oregon State because it's in the Pac-12 and it's a strong school in the Pac-12," Solomon said. "I really like that conference. It's also close to home but not too close."

Joe Suemalo, Jay Locey and Mike Riley all had a hand in convincing Solomon to choose Oregon State.

"Coach Joe was the one who came down to the school but I got to know the others," he said.

One thing the coaches undoubtedly like about Solomon is his versatility.

"They're recruiting me as a safety or a linebacker," he told BeaverBlitz.com.

Of course, if Solomon's body doesn't change much in the next year he's likely to start out at safety. If he starts to put on a significant amount of weight he would likely slide down to linebacker.

Last fall at Murrieta, Solomon had a huge season statistically. He registered 103 tackles while forcing seven fumbles, recovering three and intercepting three passes.
