Taylor is second Thursday commit for NU
Jayme Taylor.Northwestern doubled down with its second Thursday commitment, tight end
Taylor is a 6-foot-4, 217-pounder from The Woodlands (Texas). The two-star prospect became the 13th member of the Wildcats' Class of 2013 and its second Houstonian, joining wide receiver Macan Wilson.
Taylor chose Northwestern over reported offers from Wake Forest, Texas State and Air Force. An unofficial visit to Northwestern earlier this month clinched his decision.
"I took an unofficial there about a week and a half ago," he told ESPN.com. "The coaching staff was awesome, and the campus was beautiful. I liked everything about it."
Linebackers coach Randy Bates recruits Houston for Northwestern, which will feature six players from the metro area this season.
Taylor has played quarterback, slot receiver and running back for The Woodlands, which finished 12-2 and advanced to the fourth round of the state playoffs in 2011. He played through an elbow injury last year and caught 16 passes for 223 yards and one touchdown.
Minor surgery on the elblow caused Taylor to miss basketball season. However, he was back at full strength this spring and is expected to play both ways for the Highlanders in 2012.
