More changes for USC

According to multiple sources Friday, Kennedy Polamalu will not return to USC next season as the Trojans' offensive coordinator.

Polamalu, who came to USC from the Tennessee Titans, spent the last three seasons as the Trojans offensive coordinator and running backs coach under Lane Kiffin.

Tuesday, one source said that the move had been in the works for the past month. With tweets of disappointment and surprise coming from five-star running back signee Ty Isaac since last week, the implication is that the Under Armour All-American knew of the pending move before signing day.

Isaac said Tuesday that he had not spoken to Polamalu directly.

Polamalu, who was a 4-year letterman (1982-85) at USC, played both fullback and linebacker for the Trojans. He would go on to spend four years as an assistant coach at USC under Paul Hackett and then Pete Carroll.

Polamalu returned to USC in 2010 after spending five years with the Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars and Cleveland Browns.

USC currently has eight full time coaches on staff after firing secondary coach Marvin Sanders, and the departure of linebacker coach Scottie Hazelton for the Nevada defensive coordinator position and the resignation of defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, who took the same job with the Dallas Cowboys. Sources have indicated quarterback coach Clay Helton may assume the role of offensive coordinator, but that is speculation at this point.

USC ranked No. 41 nationally in total offense last season, averaging 432 yards a game. The Trojans were 116th out of 120 FBS teams in turnovers lost with 34 in 2012.
