Surprise: Frazier to Bama
Josh Frazier, four-star defensive tackle from Har-Ber High School in Springdale, Ark., surprised many on Saturday evening when he suddenly announced intentions to announce his college decision. Frazier eliminated favorites one by one via Twitter.
Frazier listed Alabama on his short list for several months, but it was believed he might choose Arkansas or Texas A&M because of location. He wanted to please his mother who preferred him staying closer to home. It changed when Frazier and his mother visited to Tuscaloosa for the LSU game. It was her first time on the Alabama campus.
"Alabama dominates college football," Frazier said in an earlier interview. "Ever since Coach Saban got to Alabama it's amazing how much they have grown. They are on top now in college football. I don't think that will change anytime soon.
A recent conversation Frazier had with Alabama head coach Nick Saban really stood out to him.
"Coach Saban retold me that he really likes me," he said. "He can see me going there. He said I can play defensive tackle or get fit and trim up to play defensive end for them. I thought that was pretty cool.
"He likes my mobility and the way I move on my feet. He likes what I bring to the table on defense. He told me their defensive line is a little banged up right now. He told me I can make an immediate impact and play as a true freshman.
"I have seen guys like (T.J.) Yeldon and (Amari) Cooper make big impacts as freshmen. Alabama always has good guys to go up against on their team. I think it would make me a better player. I thought that was pretty cool for him saying I have a chance to play early."
Frazier is ranked the No. 1 player in the state of Arkansas. It's the second year in a row Alabama has pulled in a commitment from the top rated player in the Razorback State. Altee Tenpenny signed with Alabama in 2013. Frazier is the No. 5 defensive tackle and No. 103 overall player in the Rivals250.
Frazier's quote on Twitter: "Ok Arkansas I'm sorry but I've decided Alabama. I hope u will still support me when I go rep Arkansas in Alabama."
