Brown shuts it down

In October, Los Angeles (Calif.) Loyola offensive lineman Chris Brown had scholarship offers from San Diego State and Washington State.

Then the first four games of his senior season went out to colleges on film. Soon after, USC, UCLA and 10 more schools came in with scholarship offers.

"They all say they see the film and they're wondering why I haven't been offered by 20 schools," he said at the time.

As quickly as his recruitment exploded with the likes of Texas A&M, Oregon and Nebraska all positioning themselves for official visits, Brown ended his indecision by committing to USC Monday morning over Oregon, Texas A&M and UCLA.

"I've officially committed to USC," said Brown. "It's an awesome feeling and I can't wait to be a part of the Trojan family.

"USC is great academically and I can't wait to get an education from the best university in the world.

"Meeting Coach Sark and spending time with him, we really clicked. He has been at USC before and he has a plan.

"I knew I wanted to stay on the West Coast, and close to my family. USC has a great package of football and academics.

"I really just can't wait to be a Trojan. I just wanted t make sure because this is my final decision. I'm solid and final with USC."

Brown becomes commitment No. 14 for USC in the 2014 class, and the fifth offensive linemen the Trojans have secured a pledge from thus far.

Brown, a 6-foot-6, 285-pound offensive tackle for Loyola High School, had an inclination that USC would be his eventual choice. Upon being offered a scholarship by interim head coach Ed Orgeron in mid-October, Brown was ready to make a commitment within a few weeks time.

However, 12 scholarships later, Brown's decision was made much harder.

"I was just ecstatic about the SC offer," said Brown. "I've been a big USC fan for a while and I love everything about the school.

"My family is all USC. The education is great, and like I said then, it's really the total package. But I wanted to wait and not rush into a decision. I wanted to make sure it was the right fit after I saw what else was out there."

Brown officially visited Oregon Nov. 15 and Texas A&M Nov. 9, also taking an unofficial visits to UCLA. While he pondered waiting out his decision until January, he had seen everything he needed to after arriving on campus at USC Friday.

"I think he was really seriously looking at Oregon for a while, but after this weekend at USC, I spoke to his dad and they were ready to announce almost immediately," said his head coach at Loyola, Marvin Sanders. "That pretty much said it all."
