Clayton Johnston chooses USC

Servite High School offensive lineman Clayton Johnston has announced his commitment to USC. The 6-foot-6 prospect chose the Trojans over Arizona State, Cal and Wake Forest.

His commitment came just days after Tim Drevno and Steve Sarkisian decided to offer the three-star prospect a scholarship.

"USC has always interested me," Johnston said. "They're very prestigious and I just knew it was a perfect fit."

First and foremost, Johnston was considering academics when he made this decision.

"The academic part of it was huge," Johnston said. "Football is not always going to be there but a degree from USC is forever."

He also felt like going to USC would make the next few years a bit easier on him.

"I wanted it to be an easy transition and I wanted to fit in," Johnston said. "The coaches were a big part of that. I'll feel comfortable with them for the next four or five years."

But it's not just about how comfortable he is with the academic program or the coaching staff. His family played a big role in this decision as well. Since USC is just miles away from Anaheim (Calif.), it made his choice that much more obvious.

"I wanted to stay on the West Coast and USC is so close to home," Johnston said. "I thought I could get the college experience and stay close to my family."

Johnston is the third commitment along the offensive line for the Trojans in this recruiting cycle.
