Tristan Payton commits to USC
Jacksonville (Fla.) wide receiver Tristan Payton has announced that he's committed to USC.
"I'm blessed to say that I am committed to the University of Southern California," Payton said on twitter.
The 6-foot prospect was once relatively unknown nationally. That was until an impressive performance at a University of Florida camp back in February.
Florida immediately offered a scholarship to the prospect from First Coast High School. They joined Kentucky, Wake Forest, Central Florida and others.
Payton committed to the Gators just two days later.
After his commitment, the recruiting process didn't slow down. Prominent football schools like Ohio State and Miami continued to offer him scholarships.
In the summer, Payton made his way to camps at Florida State and USC. After those two camps he de-committed from Florida and re-opened his recruitment.
From that point on, he was considering Central Florida, Ohio State and USC. He scheduled a trip back to USC for the weekend of August 7 and committed on the visit.
Payton isn't the type of receiver to physically impose his will but he does have good size. He's also a technical route runner who's very athletic and explosive. He's a strong contender to move up to a four-star in the next release of the rivals.com rankings.
He likely projects to be a flanker or slot receiver at the next level.
USC now have three commitments at wide receiver along with Desean Holmes, De'Quan Hampton. They're still targeting a few other receivers in the 2015 class.
