Pac-Tending 10-01-08

"We can't think parochially anymore. We need to think big picture."

- NCAA chairman of the Division I Championships Cabinet and San Diego State athletic director, Jeff Schemmel, addressing the travel policy and bracket changes for upcoming NCAA championships.

The championship run for the Creek continues for the Pac-10 as teams still sit at or near the top of national polls in both soccer [Stanford #2] and volleyball [USC #4].

Meanwhile, at NCAA HQ, a recommendation to increase the travel policy mileage limitation from 350 miles to 400 miles for upcoming championship events was endorsed by the championship cabinet and will consider additional recommendations, including declaring a 48-hour buffer between the time a team has been selected for participation in an NCAA championship and the time they must depart for the competition site and to limit brackets to 25% seeded teams as well as filling it out geographically.
