IU running backs coach Deland McCullough, the man responsible for developing three consecutive 1,000-yard backs who bolted for the NFL early, is leaving Indiana for USC, TheHoosier.com has confirmed.

FootballScoop.com reported the news first.

McCullough leaves the program after spending six years in Bloomington. He was the driving force behind turning IU into one of the most productive running back schools in the country, particularly over the last four seasons or so.

McCullough was the last remaining coaching holdover on the offensive side of the ball after Kevin Wilson split ties with the program following IU's last regular-season game of 2016. He recruited and developed All-American Tevin Coleman, convinced Jordan Howard to transfer from UAB to IU for one standout season and most-recently helped Devine Redding to the second of his back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons.

Coleman just lost in the Super Bowl with the Atlanta Falcons, Howard was a Pro-Bowler as a rookie with the Chicago Bears and Redding is entered in the upcoming NFL Draft.

There is no lead on his replacement.
