McCoy is in no rush

One of the top players in Oklahoma this year is Southeast High School defensive tackle Gerald McCoy.
The 6-foot-4, 305-pound Rivals100 selection has hosted eight different college coaching staffs since the May evaluation period began. Among that list of suitors was USC head coach Pete Carroll. However, Carroll left something behind during his visit to the Sooner State.

"OU, Notre Dame, LSU, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, Miami and USC have all been on campus to visit," said McCoy. "Coach Carroll came down from USC. He couldn't really talk to me in person, but he talked with my coach."
That visit resulted in a full scholarship offer from the Trojans.
"Yup, I received my written offer from USC on Wednesday, which was May 4th," said McCoy. "It was exciting because you see USC on TV and they have the best program in the country – back-to-back national champions. That was a big offer right there."
"They (USC) have a good program, they have a history of winning and they're graduating a lot of people at my position."
While USC is a program McCoy has definite interest in, he's not in any rush to create an exclusive list of favorite schools.
"If too many schools start coming in, then I might have to narrow it down early," explained McCoy. "But I'm thinking about keeping an open mind until after the football season. After the football season is when I'll narrow my list down to a certain amount of schools."
That list will be created with the following criteria in mind.
"Winning history, how the coaches treat you, and what schools offer good childcare and development programs," said McCoy. "I want to major in childcare and development. I love kids and I teach Sunday school at my church, so that's something I'm interested in."
Another topic of interest for McCoy will be his summer schedule. While he's not looking to hit any team camps, McCoy would like to take some unofficial visits.
"Yeah, I'm going to try to visit Miami, Notre Dame, USC, Nebraska and LSU," said McCoy. "These are just schools I'm naming because they're showing me interest. We (McCoy's family) have to sit down and see where I really want to go first."
