Nations No. 1 quarterback to announce

Sammamish (Wash.) Skyline quarterback Max Browne is ready to make his college selection. After unofficially visiting USC last weekend and Oklahoma two weeks before, Browne is shutting it down. The top-rated quarterback in the 2013 class by Rivals.com will make his commitment Wednesday night.

Browne, who has thrown for 8,216 yards with 95 touchdowns and 20 interceptions in the past two seasons combined, returned to USC after unofficially visiting Los Angeles for the Trojans' Junior day in February.

Last Saturday, Browne and his older brother, Mitch, watched the Trojans practice at the Coliseum. Mitch Browne, who was a starting quarterback at Skyline from 97-00, is still the school's No. 2 passer in total passing yards, completions, attempts and touchdowns.

Max Browne spent considerable time Saturday shadowing the Trojans offense and watching quarterback coach Clay Helton interact with USC head coach and play-caller, Lane Kiffin.

"It was a great process and I became more comfortable with the staff and the players and all the stuff USC has to offer," Browne told Rivals.com last week. "I was sitting back and observing how coaches coach, how players interact with other players on the team and how they interact with the coaches. Also, besides football, I saw how students go about their business."

Browne also interacted with recruits like Murietta (Calif.) five-star defensive back Su'a Cravens and Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) four-star cornerback Chris Hawkins. Sunday, Hawkins became the Trojans second commitment of the 2013 class.

News of Browne's pending announcement came Monday night. Browne was expected to unofficially visit Alabama before making a decision, but those plans appear to have been canceled. USC, Oklahoma, Alabama, Washington, Cal, Clemson, Wisconsin and Auburn were among the many schools to recruit Browne.

Browne has been a highly touted recruit since taking over for Jake Heaps at Skyline as a sophomore. Heaps was an Army All-American, who eventually went on to sign with BYU before transferring to Kansas last year. Browne helped Skyline maintain national prominence and helped the Spartans win a state title in 2011.

Browne, who is working to graduate from Skyline in December, wanted to get the decision out of the way in order to focus on his senior season, which includes two national match-ups against Bradenton (Fla.) Manatee and Salt Lake City (Utah) Cottonwood.
