Scholarshipology - USC scholarship math

Thanks to "Doctor Who" on the Peristyle for coming up with Scholarshipology, which we will loosely define as the study of the Trojan football scholarship situation under NCAA sanctions.
With seniors moving on, players transferring out and early enrollees on campus the USCFootball.com scholarship distribution chart received a complete makeover.

Of the thirteen seniors on the 2011 roster two have remained on the team, at least for now. Both Armond Armstead and T.J. Bryant redshirted last year but neither is likely to stay in the program.
Armstead has yet to be medically cleared and Bryant is likely to transfer and play his senior season elsewhere. We will keep both players on the chart until official announcements are made.
The Trojans also have five new players added to the roster. Incoming freshman defensive end DeVante Wilson greyshirted in 2011 and is now enrolled in school. Offensive lineman Chad Wheeler and linebacker Scott Starr graduated high school early and have enrolled as well.
Junior college transfers Morgan Breslin and Gerald Bowman have also been added to the roster. Breslin, a defensive end, will be a true junior but is not on campus yet. Bowman, a safety and also a junior, is finishing up classes at Pierce College and is still hoping to enroll this month.
Running back Amir Carlisle and receivers Kyle Prater and Brice Butler were removed from the chart. All three players are transferring out of the program.
Notes:
Junior tight end Christian Thomas played two games in 2011 before undergoing season-ending surgery. He will likely receive a medical hardship redshirt for his sophomore season.
USC needs to be at or under 75 scholarships in the fall, not before.
* Redshirt year used
# 75 scholarships permitted in the fall, 68 currently allotted to players
% Redshirted 2011, return to team pending
