Schools still pushing for USC CB commit

Wylan Free has been one of USC’s most solid commits in the 2017 class. The 6-foot-1 and 165-pound prospect was evaluated by the Trojan staff before the season. The coaches figured he’d be a perfect fit for their scheme at cornerback. USC then extended a scholarship offer and Free took advantage, committing to be a Trojan back in the summer.

Since then, Free has watched as USC made a run to the Rose Bowl.

“I think it means a lot,” Free said. “You just have to have trust in the system, you just have to believe in the system. So I mean, if people were going to de-commit or anything because of the record, or anything like that, I think that’s nonsense, to me. You just have to faith in what you’re doing on the field, off the field and things like that.”

That’s why Free continues to have faith in his commitment to USC, despite his plans to visit another school.

“Yes, I’m 100-percent committed to ‘SC and I actually do plan on taking a visit, just down to Boise (State) though,” Free said.

The product of Lynwood, Calif. HS seems to dismiss the idea that this Boise State trip could be the start of him potentially choosing another school.

“Just enjoying the process basically,” Free said when asked why he would take visits outside of USC. “It’s just, I got some free trips. So I’m just taking advantage of them.”

Washington State is still recruiting Free as well, but Boise State and USC are his only two planned college visits. Free actually hasn’t set his official visit to USC quite yet, although he does plan on taking that trip in January. Free also hasn’t had an in-home visit with USC. He plans to discuss all this with a Trojan coach soon.

“No, not yet,” Free said when asked if he knows the plan for his in-home visit with USC. “Me and Tee Martin are going to talk about our in-home visit probably this weekend.”

And if after this weekend, the conversations between Free and USC continue to go well, it’s hard to imagine that Boise State could pull him away from the Trojans.

“I grew up over here, so every kid around SoCal, they want to play at USC,” Free said. “It’s right in their backyard and they grew up watching USC or UCLA, one of the two. So I mean, any kid that gets an offer from USC, I’m pretty sure they want to go there. Because it’s right there in their community and things like that.”
