Scott has USC near the top

The day after national signing day 2016, USC is trying to make an impact on the 2018 class. That’s when the Trojans extended a scholarship offer to 6-foot-1, 215 pound linebacker Raymond Scott.

“Coach Tee Martin called today and was talking to my coach and my coach gave me the phone,” Scott said. “I was talking to Tee Martin and he said that they would love to give me an offer.”

Scott is a budding superstar from Harbor City, Calif. Narbonne HS. The evidence of his potential is the attention from power five conference coaches. Besides USC, Boston College recently came through with a scholarship offer, as did Oregon State. Scott also has a scholarship offer from Syracuse.

Even with all that attention, he is still humbled by the opportunity to attend USC.

“It means a lot, I can’t even explain it,” Scott said. “It’s a blessing, I can’t believe it.”

Scott says he has a good relationship with USC’s coaches but these recent developments were still somewhat unexpected.

“I knew they were recruiting me and they were looking at me, but it was a big surprise that they offered me,” Scott said.

Apparently the scholarship offer made a big impression. Scott already has a high opinion of USC.

“They’re going to be one of my top schools, I think top three,” Scott said.

Currently, USC is the only school on that list.

“I just know ‘SC right now,” Scott said.

The Trojans will be one of his favorites for a few reasons.

“It was my dream school basically,” Scott said. “I like the recruiting process and how they treat me over there. I think it’s a really good school and that’s why it’s up there in my top three.”

Scott is also comfortable at USC, which is usually an important factor when prospects discuss favorite schools.

“I’ve been to USC, I’ve visited, I’ve been around the campus a lot so its normal to me,” Scott said.

Even though he’s a 2018 prospect, there’s going to be a dramatic turn in Scott’s recruitment soon. He’s not waiting around before making a commitment.

“I’m not sure at this point, I don’t know but it should be soon,” Scott said.

When pressed, Scott said his decision would come “next season.”

He plans to visit schools besides USC before making his choice and he already has one visit in mind.

“Yeah of course, I’m trying to visit Syracuse,” Scott said. “That’s one of the schools I want to visit.”
