Upshur considering USC trip

Rumors are circulating that Naseir Upshur has set an official visit to USC on January 15, but the four-star tight end from Philadelphia, Pa. says those rumors are just that, rumors. According to Upshur, nothing has been set yet.

“It’s not definite,” Upshur said of a potential visit to USC. “I still have to talk everything over with my coach.”

USC, however, has approached the 6-foot-2, 238-pound prospect about a visit. The Trojans are pushing hard to get him on campus.

“Coach hit me up yesterday so I just have to see,” Upshur said. “I didn’t say I wanted to take an official, I said I’m not sure. So at that moment, I wasn’t taking an official but I’m thinking about taking an official in probably like a week or two. I’m only going to take that official and Florida State. I think I’ll visit (Florida State) the 29th.”

If he does make it to USC, the product of Imhotep Institute Charter School is thinking about visiting the week before his Florida State trip.

“I’m not sure, it’ll probably be a week before the 29th,” Upshur said.

If Upshur visits USC, it would be an impressive feat for the Trojans. He committed to Florida State in September and had eliminated USC from consideration before making that choice. USC was in Upshur’s top eight, but didn’t make the final cut before he picked the Seminoles.

So why is USC back in it? Some credit has to go to Marques Tuiasosopo, who Upshur says is recruiting him out West. But Upshur is also just curious about seeing the school.

“Just to see how everything is, I haven’t visited yet but I’m still solid to Florida State, I just want to see how everything is and I never got an opportunity to visit,” Upshur said. “I picked Florida State because I visited and I still have an opportunity to visit USC so I’m going to see how everything is before signing day.”

That being said, Upshur says he isn’t likely to change his mind on his commitment.

“I’m 100-percent Florida State,” Upshur said.
