Williams sits down with Tee Martin

Name football programs from all across the country are recruiting Chase Williams and he plans to take advantage of that for a bit. The 6-foot-1 and 175 pound receiver will take his time and see all his potential options before making any sort of commitment.

Early on, Williams doesn’t even have favorite schools. But that could change quickly.

“I probably will be coming out with them soon,” Williams told TrojanSports.com.

A few upcoming visits might help him narrow his options. Williams plans to visit Notre Dame on March 29, Ohio State on March 30 and Arizona State on April 7. He also visited USC this past Friday.

“I had been planning on going up there for about a couple weeks,” Williams said of his USC visit. “I really wanted to go up and just talk to Coach Tee (Martin) and see what he had for me and kind what he had to say and really get a feel of how he coaches and stuff like that. And I did, I ended up getting a good feel. Me getting to be in a room with Coach just because I can see how he coaches and what he says and certain things like what he critiques on, that was probably the most important part for me.”

The Rivals250 prospect from Eleanor Roosevelt HS in Corona, Calif. also spoke with Martin about playing on both sides of the ball.

“He keeps telling he’s glad I play both positions,” Williams said. “And he’s telling me how he’s going to be using me that I might end up playing both sides. Playing receiver, playing corner, kind of playing both positions, offense, defense a little bit.”

USC originally offered Williams as a receiver exclusively but using his ball skills on defense might pay off down the line. It’s something Trojan coaches have tried regularly while recruiting different prospects in recent years. Guys like Adoree’ Jackson, Ajene Harris, Keyshawn Young and Jackie Jones were also known for their skills with the ball in their hands on offense.

This staff isn’t the only one that sees Williams potentially fitting on defense as well, although he says he doesn’t care what position he plays in college.

“Some schools are recruiting me as both, some are recruiting me as just a receiver,” Williams said. “It just depends on the school and how they feel.”
