His middle name stretches as long as the 100-yard football field he’s grown up playing, but there’s more that drives Rainier Beach High School’s new starting quarterback.

Max Manoho'okeleokekaimamao Nall, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound senior transferred from Garfield HS (Seattle, Washington) this off-season and is expected to have a strong 2017 season, with several highly touted receivers joining the program in tight end Jarrell Anderson and wide receiver Mason Starling.

“Dynamic,” Nall said, describing his style as a quarterback. “I can throw, I can run, and that adds a whole new facet to my game.”

Last season at Garfield Nall ran a more of a run-pass option offense, allowing him to showcase more of his athletic abilities while also completing 64 percent of his pass attempts. This season the plan at Rainier Beach is to run an ‘Aid Raid’ style offense.

Nall grew up a fan of the University of Hawaii and Washington State University, which also run an Air Raid offense under current head coach Mike Leach. Former Cougar quarterback Jack Thompson also serves as Nall’s personal QB coach with the Hawaiian connection running strong.

“Just the entire way I look at the game,” Nall said of the key lesson learned thus far from Thompson’s teaching. “He’s taught me a vast amount of stuff, but it’s mostly a mindset of how I look at the game and how I approach the game.”

Despite putting throwing for 2,817 yards and 25 touchdowns as a junior at Garfield, Nall has yet to receive his first college scholarship offer. Several schools including Air Force, Hawaii, Oregon State and WSU have expressed interest, but there is still a chip on his shoulder.

But Nall knows once the first offer comes it won’t be his last.

“I feel extremely underrated,” Nall said. “Once the first one games other schools will start to come along. I’m planning on going on the FSP camp circuit and then visit some other camps later this summer as well.”

Nall performed extremely well during the MayMadness Showcase earlier this month, hosted by Ford Sports Performance and Tracy Ford. The camp tour includes California, Oregon, Oregon State, Utah and several other Pac-12 and Mountain West Conference schools.
