It had actually been a handful of years since USC landed a big-time prospect from the power program down the road at St. John Bosco High School.
To be specific, it was 2014 when the Trojans signed 4-star offensive guard Damien Mama and 3-star defensive lineman Malik Dorton from the Braves of Bellflower.
The Trojans then went through the 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 recruiting cycles without mining any scholarship prospects from one of the most talent-rich high school programs in the country that also happens to be located less than 20 miles from campus.
But now? Well, the Bosco-to-USC pipeline has been flowing strong in recent years, continuing on Friday when highly-coveted 2021 offensive guard Maximus Gibbs announced his Trojans commitment.
That makes two big-time Bosco commits in this class for USC, along with 4-star OLB Ma'a Gaoteote (who actually committed in February of 2018 while still attending Faith Lutheran Academy in Las Vegas).
In the 2020 class, it was 3-star DT Kobe Pepe, along with a pair of preferred walk-ons in LB Danny Lockhart and RB Matt Colombo making the move from Bosco to USC.
And, of course, in 2019 USC signed 4-star Bosco TE Jude Wolfe, 4-star LB Ralen Goforth and eventually landed 5-star Braves CB Chris Steele following his transfer from Florida after going through spring practice there.
