Edge rusher Kameryn Fountain announces USC commitment after impactful visit

Since Lincoln Riley's arrival, USC has really geared its recruiting strategy on maximizing their presentation and impact on official visits and closing on commitments during this pivotal month of June.

And it sure seems like the Trojans are off to a strong start in that regard.

They entered the month with just three announced Class of 2024 commitments (plus another one teased on Twitter by the standard Fight On emoji signal last week) and have now had four of their weekend visitors announce commitments, as three-star Atlanta edge rusher Kameryn Fountain made his decision Monday, following three-star OT Hayden Treter out of Colorado, four-star Rivals250 S Jarvis Boatwright out of Florida and local four-star Rivals250 CB Dakoda Fields (Gardena Serra HS).

Fountain talked to TrojanSports.com Sunday night after returning home from his visit and said the experienced impacted the way he looks at USC "a lot."

"It made me want to stay down there. Very big impact," he said, before adding then that USC had surged to No. 1 in his recruitment.

He put action behind those words Monday.

Fountain's mother also tweeted about the impact the visit had for her.

Fountain, who was accompanied by his mother and brother on the trip, reiterated that his family came away just as impressed.

"They loved it, especially the academic program, they loved it," he said.

Indeed, that's the part Fountain emphasized as the overall highlight of his visit.

"It was talking to the professors. Like whatever you wanted to major in, they had you talk to that certain professor. And they're like No. 1 in everything. It couldn't get no better than that," he said.

Fountain, listed at 6-foot-6, 237 pounds, said the staff likes him for the stand-up rush end position but could also move him over on the defensive line based on situations.

This weekend was his first time really talking at length with USC defensive line coach Shaun Nua, but Fountain has been building a relationship with rush ends coach Roy Manning for a while now.

"I've been talking to Coach Manning since the beginning of my junior year. We have a very strong bond, a very strong bond," he said. "Anything I've got to say or if [I have a question] on anything, that's the person I go to to ask about."

As for the main message from those coaches this weekend ...

"They were talking about like, 'Would you regret your decision 40 years from now?' It was outside of football [what] we talked about," he said.

He was originally supposed to take official visits to Georgia and Tennessee as well, but he confirmed he won’t be going on those trips now.

Apparently, the Trojans' message resonated that strongly.

Fountain is USC's seventh overall Class of 2024 commit, with four of those coming in the last 24 hours and still another teased commitment (via the Fight On emoji from coach Lincoln Riley) yet to be revealed.
