The USC football team has transitioned out of camp mode and into its game week structure, even though the season opener is still more than a week and a half away.

Coach Lincoln Riley talked about what that entails, where he's seen this team progress, the emergence of tight end Lake McRee, freshman cornerback Domani Jackson's injury situation and the wide receivers.

What does Lake McRee do for the offense?

"Lake's doing well. We hated not having him in the spring. It was kind of a wild ride with him medically in the spring. The kid showed a lot of toughness and resiliency to just be back here competing right now. I think that's been maybe the No. 1 thing we've seen from him is you know what you're going to get from him every day. There is a toughness about him, he's a very consistent competitor. He's still a young player, but he's got a pretty versatile skill set. So he's one of the guys that has certainly taken advantage of his reps and made a move here. He's going to continue to get better and better as a player, but he does have a very good skill set. The No. 1 thing that stands out is his toughness, his mentality and the way he competes every single day for a young guy is very impressive."
