Four-star Florida WR sees fit at USC

Seffner (Fla.) Armwood wide receiver Warren Thompson released a top seven during the spring, but he decided to modify his top schools list.

The 2018 four-star prospect now has a top ten of USC, Florida State, Miami, Florida, USF, Louisville, Georgia, Penn State, Mississippi State, and Tennessee.

"At first, I was kind of not really open to all of my options that my recruitment had to offer, but now, I'm trying to explore my options to more than just in-state and some out of state schools," Thompson said.

Thompson received his offer from USC in mid-July from USC assistant coach Keynodo Hudson.

"USC was one of the offers that I was waiting," said Thompson. "I knew that they always had interest in me, but it seemed like they were hesitant. I was on the phone with (Hudson), and he said that people were saying that I wanted to stay (close to) home and I was a momma's boy, but then he just offered me. I always loved USC with JuJu Smith, and I watched him at Poly. I fit that style. I hopefully want to be a part of it some day."

With Hudson being from Thompson's area, they were able to click right away.

"He's actually from here. He went to high school at Hillsborough (high school in Tampa). We had something in common right off the bat," Thompson explained. "I actually got in touch with him through my 7-on-7 coach. I hit it off with him. My mom was telling him how we love California, and we really do. I've never been there, but my mom has. I really want to go. That's going to be a school that I'm going to take for a visit my senior year."

When Thompson is considering schools, a big part of his decision making process is seeing what receivers have thrived at that school. When it comes to USC, Thompson loves JuJu Smith.

"Coming from a fan's standpoint, JuJu Smith is a receiver that's like me," Thompson said. "He can go up and get the ball, and he's very fast. I like how they air the ball out. Personally, I've always loved that California style. It's just a good fit. Football in California - you really can't beat that."
