Rivals100 four-star quarterback Jacob Sirmon committed to Washington back in December of 2015. But that commitment hasn't stopped USC from making contact with him, as the Trojans are looking to replace Matt Corral.
If the last name Sirmon sounds familiar, that's because it should. Sirmon is the nephew of former USC linebacker coach Peter Sirmon. At the time his uncle was coaching at USC, the younger Sirmon was a regular around USC's program and campus.
Since then, USC took a commitment from a different quarterback and Peter Sirmon left USC for a promotion. But now it seems Jacob Sirmon could emerge again as a potential target for USC.
"Coach (Clay) Helton talked to me briefly about their camps this coming weekend but nothing extensive," Sirmon told TrojanSports.com when asked if USC had contacted him.
Sirmon will not visit USC this weekend for the second session of the Rising Stars Camp. In fact, he only has plans to set foot on one campus.
"The only planned visit I have so far is the University of Washington," Sirmon said when asked if he would visit USC. "I have their camp in the summer and then a lot of different camps with my high school team."
When asked about his interest in the Trojans, Sirmon again echoed his solid pledge to the Huskies.
"Right now, I'm committed to the University of Washington," Sirmon said when asked if he would look into USC. "Most of my focus right now is just on my high school football team and getting ready for my high school guys."
But he is willing to admit that a scholarship offer from USC would mean a great deal.
"If a USC offer did come through, that would be a great honor," Sirmon said. "I would really appreciate that. As of right now, that hasn't happened so far and I'm just focusing on my high school football team and staying committed so far."
And he wouldn't be surprised if USC actually did pull the trigger and offered him a scholarship.
"I wouldn't be surprised with the quarterback situation right now," Sirmon said. "Obviously, they're on the market. With that said, I'm not really in the loop with them as much. So I'm just really focused on my high school and where we're going with that."
Although Sirmon lives in Bothell, Wash. and the Huskies are the local program, speculation is rampant that a USC offer could be worth considering for Sirmon. That's mainly because Colson Yankoff is also committed to Washington. Yankoff is also a four-star quarterback from the Pacific Northwest and he committed to Washington well after Sirmon did.
But Sirmon says he welcomes the challenge from a fellow 2018 quarterback.
"Honestly, that is not on my mind," Sirmon said when asked about being in a two-man quarterback class. "Anywhere we go there's going to be competition. Colton, the other quarterback committed to the University of Washington, he's a great guy, a great competitor. I can't wait to compete with him and whoever else I end up competing with. Honestly, I love competition and I think that drives me and makes me become a better football player and person in general. So I'm not worried about that at all."
