While 2022 quarterback Maalik Murphy, from Gardena Serra High School, has been piling up major offers nationally, USC hadn't been showing as much interest as some other programs aside from joining his early offer list.

But the Trojans' elite junior day event a few weekends ago was a positive step, as Murphy spent about 45 minutes with offensive coordinator Graham Harrell going over USC's offensive system and even getting into the details of specific plays.

"It was fun. Being able to go in there, go over the offense, his scheme, how he does things as an offensive coordinator, it was good," Murphy told TrojanSports.com. "[I was] really trying to see if it would fit me -- going through everything, see if it would be a good place for me."

So did he get a better sense for the program after that experience?

"Yeah, I did. USC, they weren't too high on my list at first because they weren't recruiting me that tough, but going there and seeing how everything is and going over their offense, I feel like it would fit me. So we'll how things go," he said.

It's still very early in Murphy's recruitment in general. He has 18 offers and had mentioned previously that Texas and Ohio State were a couple programs showing a lot of interest in particular, but speaking Saturday he said things have been kind of quiet overall of late so everything remains pretty open for him at this point.
