Ronnie Perkins has a three-star ranking according to Rivals.com. But a quick glance at his list of scholarship offers shows evidence that he might be vastly underrated.

The defensive end from Lutheran North HS in St. Louis, Mo. has scholarship offers from coast-to-coast. His list of offers includes opportunities to play in every power five conference, including the chance to play for national championship caliber programs. Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Penn State, Texas and USC are just a few of the names that jump out.

That kind of attention would overwhelm any high schooler. To help deal with all the insanity, Perkins plans to narrow his list of options.

"I'll be listing my top schools real soon," Perkins told TrojanSports.com.

USC just offered Perkins a scholarship on Thursday. Is there time for USC to still make the cut?

"I can't say that," Perkins said. "It's one of those things where you have to stay tuned."

When pressed, he says he'll definitely give the Trojans a chance.

"It won't be like tomorrow or anytime this week but it's real close," Perkins said. "USC is definitely going to have time to make up for lost ground."

The 6-foot-4 and 260-pounder, who has family in California, even says USC has a chance to sign him.

"Most definitely, it's USC," Perkins said when asked if USC could sign him. "So most people wouldn't pass up that chance. But it depends on the type of vibe I build with them. But I definitely like it. I'm definitely excited to get to know this coaching staff and I'm 100-percent interested."

The Trojans will have to hustle to make up for lost time. Thursday was the first time Perkins was aware of USC being interested.

"This is the first time with me communicating with them," Perkins said. "I was happy. But I knew they had been recruiting St. Louis from (Trevor) Trout and (Michael) Thompson."

A USC assistant stopped by his school and it eventually led to the scholarship offer.

"The defensive line coach (Kenechi Udeze) came through," Perkins said. "He communicated to my coach and he saw my transcript. And I was told he offered me."

"It's huge,"Perkins said of the scholarship offer from USC. "USC is a big school, one of the top schools in the country. And they have a real nice tradition. Having a chance to go play there is a big opportunity."

It's an opportunity that he wants to check out. When asked about visiting USC, Perkins said "yeah I definitely am."

It also seems that USC is very much in contention to host him on an official visit.

"Nine times out of ten, it would be an official," Perkins said when asked about further details of the upcoming trip. "I just want to get to know them more. But they can definitely make up for lost time. So they can definitely creep up into one of my five officials."

Perkins is currently unsure about a specific position but he believes he'll be one of the three down linemen.
