Jarrett turning pro

All-American wide receiver Dwayne Jarrett has decided to forgo his senior season and enter the NFL draft.

Jarrett made his intentions clear during an afternoon press conference outside of Heritage Hall. The 6-5, 210-pound receiver is projected as a first round draft choice.

"I'd like to say that I am ready to declare that I will be going on to the NFL," said Jarrett.

And with that simple statement Jarrett's USC career was over.

Speaking of his time at Troy Jarrett added, "The three years I have been here have been great, I enjoyed every moment of it."

As he looks forward we look back.

With three full years in the program, Jarrett has accumulated a tremendous list of accomplishments. His team won a national championship as a freshman, made All-American the past two seasons and is the Pac-10 all time leader in touchdown receptions.

Despite being slowed this season with a shoulder and quadriceps injury, Jarrett still put together another 1,000 yard season. He finished with 70 grabs for 1,015 yards and a team leading 12 touchdowns.

As a sophomore Jarrett led the team with 91 catches for 1,274 yards and led the nation with 16 touchdown receptions. Those impressive numbers were enough to make Jarrett one of three finalists for the Biletnikoff Award, given to the best receiver in the nation.

During his freshman campaign he played in all 13 games and became the starter during the last eight including the national championship game. He caught 55 balls for 849 yards and 13 TDs. In the Orange Bowl against Oklahoma Jarrett caught five passes for 115 yards and had a 54-yard touchdown reception. That performance was the springboard for Jarrett's final two All-American seasons at Troy.

When he first arrived on campus via New Brunswick, NJ, the lanky receiver missed home and considered transferring. But Jarrett stuck it out, became the starter before the halfway point of the season and the rest is history.

Jarrett is leaving on a high note, turning in one of his best performances in the Rose Bowl against Michigan. He snagged 11 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns.

He concluded his press conference in tears, and embraced his mom at the podium.
