Every week, TrojanSports.com will recap how USC's committed recruits performed in their respective games.
The TrojanSports team is also spread across the area each week seeing as many prospects in person as we can. This past Friday night, we watched four-star tight end target Duce Robinson and new wide receiver commit Ja'Kobi Lane and will have highlight packages coming on both early this week.
As for the roundup (most stats credited to MaxPreps.com) ...
Four-star LB Tackett Curtis (Many HS/Many, La.) – 2-for-3 passing for 35 Yards, 2 carries for 25 yards, 2 Solo Tackles, 3 Assists, 152 punt return yards, 2 punt return TDs
It seems like Tackett Curtis did it all Friday night. He only had 5 total tackles on defense, but add in a violent pass breakup and a dominant special teams performance and it's easy to see why he's such a highly-rated prospect. When the linebacker/quarterback is your punt returner, it shows what kind of athlete he is -- especially when he returns two punts for touchdowns. Not sure how their offense is running, but it seemed like a good first game for the team.
Five-star QB Malachi Nelson (Los Alamitos HS) -- 17 of 27 passing for 189 yards and 3 TDs
Los Alamitos lost 33-28 to Basha HS, out of Arizona. Nel
Four-star RB Quinten Joyner (Manor HS/Manor, Texas) – 13 carries for 202 yards and 4 TDs
His team didn’t play a very good opponent, but those numbers speak for themselves. Averaging 15.5 yards per carry is an unsustainable number, but he did rip one of those runs for 51 yards, so he has getaway speed. Seeing the video of his 40-yard touchdown run (not available on Twitter, unfortuantely), he runs up the middle, jump cuts the linebacker, and uses his speed to get past every defender for an impressive touchdown. It was a big improvement from his last game so it's good to see him bounce back.
Four-star RB A'Marion Peterson (Hirschi HS/Wichita Falls, Texas) -- 23 carries for 113 yards and 2 TDs
Peterson helped Hirschi improve to 2-0 with a 37-30 overtime win over Brock on Thursday, scoring the decisive TD as part of his big day overall.
Four-star S Christian Pierce (Rancho Cucamonga HS) – 4 solo tackles, 3 assists, 1 interception for 56 yards
Rancho Cucamonga’s strong defense was surprisingly beaten by a weaker Norco team. Their offense certainly didn’t help them out, but giving up 26 points to Norco at home is certainly not ideal. Pierce, however, still had a strong game with 7 total tackles plus a big interception.
