Rivals250 safety Jarvis Boatwright commits to USC after official visit

USC continues to gain momentum entering the summer, and Sunday marks another big day for the Trojans.

Following a commitment from offensive tackle Hayden Treter earlier in the day, USC has added a commitment from Florida-based Rivals250 safety Jarvis Boatwright Jr., who announced his pledge to Lincoln Riley's program through a social media post Sunday evening following his official visit to Los Angeles.

The Clearwater High School standout safety currently ranks No. 234 overall in the Rivals rankings, and he has added several noteworthy offers throughout his recruitment. Florida State and Tennessee both previously hosted him for unofficial visits, and the 6-foot-2 recruit previously planned to take official visits to both those schools in the coming weeks.

He also has had an official visit to South Carolina on his schedule as well. It's unknown if he'll still take those trips.

Meanwhile, he becomes the second commitment for the Trojans after their first big official visit weekend of the month.

The process with Alex Grinch and the rest of the USC defensive staff and Boatwright played out over several months after the Trojans offered him in late January. Prior to that offer he released a top five that included Florida, UCF, South Carolina, Tennessee and Florida State, so the Trojans really surged in his recruitment in recent months.

LSU, Ole Miss, Miami, Penn State, Nebraska, Michigan State, Mississippi State, West Virginia and Louisville are some of the other programs that offered Boatwright.

He is the first defensive back to commit to the Trojans in the current cycle, and he is the fifth commitment overall for Riley's program for the 2024 class -- joining Treter, four-star WR Xavier Jordan, four-star RB Bryan Jackson and three-star WR/TE Joey Olsen.

It's expected that USC was only going to sign two safeties in this class. That could always change, but the Trojans are halfway to that goal with a big one in Boatwright.
