Terrell leading and impressing

Three weeks remain until the Trojans' season opener against Utah State. For senior J.T. Terrell, the season cannot start soon enough. The 6-foot-3 shooting guard made his mark as an offensive force in his debut year at USC. Terrell finished the 2012-13 season averaging 11.7 points per game and led the conference in three pointers.
However, it is Terrell's leadership on and off the court that has head coach Andy Enfield buzzing.

"I've been very impressed with [J.T. Terrell's] leadership and his attitude," Enfield said. "He's playing hard and is very unselfish. Sometimes he is a little too unselfish and needs to be a little more aggressive. He has come in and said 'whatever I need to do to help us win, I'm willing to do that.' I'm very proud of him and my expectations are that he continues to grow as a senior leader."
Terrell is easily adapting to his new role as leader for the program and draws upon past experiences to help guide the young talent on the Trojans' roster.
"I do [see myself as a leader]," Terrell said. "I have four years of experience. I try to lead by example every day in practice."
The team began the initial installation of the offense this past weekend. Terrell remarked that the learning process can be tedious at times, but the team does not lack for energy.
"The past two weeks have been good and we have done a lot of learning," Terrell said. "Everybody has been working hard. It has been very competitive. Our learning days are slow but that is part of it. At the end of practice, things do pick up as we get a competition going, keeping score and stuff like that. Right now, it is not perfect but we are getting better."
Though the Trojans are just two weeks into official workouts, Terrell believes that his teammates have significantly improved from last year.
"Byron [Wesley], Omar [Oraby], Brendyn [Taylor], Chass [Bryan], and all of our returning guys have improved tremendously," Terrell said. "Everyone that is new this year has come in and fit in well. We are only as good as our weakest link so everyone has been working hard so we do not have that weak link."
J.T. Terrell's goal for the season is simply just to win and he is willing to do whatever it takes to do so.
"I want to do the best that I can and play to the best of my abilities," he said. "I want to do what my team allows me to do and do what I need to do for my team to win. Come out and beat every day and try to be the best player out there."
