Rivals100 prospect Max Williams of Gardena Serra High became the third cornerback to commit to USC from the Class of 2019 on Saturday and the 16th player overall. We caught up with Rivals national recruiting analyst Adam Gorney to get his thoughts on what the Trojans can look forward to from the local four-star recruit.

What was your latest evaluation of Max Williams before he tore his ACL?

Adam Gorney: "I loved him in the summer. I thought he was fantastic. He was great at the Five-Star challenge. He’s a super competitive kid and he shows up to every event and he wants to prove himself. And I think that has to do with people questioning him because of his height and that’s always going to be an issue. It’s something that USC felt comfortable enough taking him, that he could play. He is a short kid. There’s just no getting around that. Bigger receivers in the Pac-12 will cause problems. But he’s surprisingly physical for his size and his competitiveness, I think will make him a pretty good player in the Pac-12, because he’s going to go out there and compete every single play. He doesn’t have that size to rely on, so he knows who he is as a player. At the Five-Star Challenge in Atlanta, he was one of the best cornerbacks there. He more than held his own against some of the best wide receivers in the country, so I think he’s a pretty talented kid.”

Is Williams a more refined cornerback at this stage than some of the five-star corners to sign with USC recently?
